Strengthening institutional capacity of State Designated Agencies

Introduction

State Designated Agencies (SDAs) are statutory bodies set up by the states to implement energy conservation measures. The main emphasis of the scheme, undertaken by the Ministry of Power through Bureau of Energy Efficiency, is to build capacity of the SDAs to enable them to discharge regulatory, facilitative and enforcement functions under the Energy Conservation 2001.

Rationale

  • The programme seeks to develop and implement Energy Conservation Action Plan based on a uniform template evolved for taking measures necessary to build institutional and human capacity. It also enables the SDAs to implement energy efficiency programmes and undertake evaluation and monitoring of the energy conservation activities implemented in the state.

India experience

Till date, 32 states/union territories have designated their SDAs to coordinate, regulate and enforce the provisions of Energy Conservation Act 2001.
