Title: Draft Rajasthan Solar Energy Policy 2014
Organization:Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited
Date:August 2014

Conventional power generation through fossil fuels (which are fast depleting) is also one of the sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, a global shift towards sustainable renewable energy generation is being witnessed. The State of Rajasthan receives maximum solar radiation intensity in India with very low average rainfall. The state also has unutilized low cost desert land available in abundance. Hence the State Government has decided to review the existing Rajasthan Solar Energy Policy, 2011.

The vision of this policy is to reduce the dependence on conventional sources of energy by promoting the development of non-conventional energy sources, particularly the solar power, so that the state could attain self-sufficiency in its energy needs. The aim of this policy is to create an enabling environment for installation of 25000 MW of solar power within the next 7-8 years. The policy also envisages a solar centre of excellence which would work towards applied research and commercialization of nascent technologies to accelerate the march to grid parity. The policy proposes setting up of grid interactive solar power projects, rooftop photovoltaic solar power plants, decentralized and off-grid solar applications, and development of solar parks. Under this policy several facilities like grant of incentives available to industries. availability of water for power generation, and clearance from the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board would be provided.
