The Government of India On July 4, 2014, finalized the fourth stage of emission standards called the Bharat Stage IV (BS-IV) standards for motorized two-wheeled vehicles. This will come into effect for the two-wheelers manufactured on and after the 1 April 2016 for new types of vehicle models and from 1 April, 2017 for existing types of vehicle models. The two-wheeled vehicles were classified under fitted with gasoline engines and diesel engines. The test procedure and driving cycles shall be as per United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) Global Technical Regulation 2. A significant change in this notification is that BS IV defines independent NOx standards, in addition
to the combined HC+NOx limits.
