The study was conducted with the aim of presenting a comprehensive view of the energy access situation of the poor urban and peri-urban population in developing countries. Through analysing urban development and energy policies, a failure to recognize energy as a basic service has been identified as a major gap. As part of the study, several demand-side barriers faced by poor households in accessing clean energy were identified. The study also identifies potential solutions and presents good practices that have addressed these barriers and improved energy access in some way or the other.
