The government’s Rs 5.5-lakh-crore plan to undertake 30 river interlinking projects, which is likely to end excessive floods and drought in the country, will take off by the end of 2017.The newly appointed water resources minister Mr Nitin Gadkari has issued instructions to his officials asking them to take up the projects in a phased manner. The Union minister has also called meetings with the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh in the next 15 days, a top water resources ministry official said.
