Title: Nod for Rs 22,507-cr National Urban Health Mission

The Cabinet cleared the R 22,507-crore NUHM (National Urban Health Mission) to address healthcare challenges in towns and cities with focus on urban poor. After Cabinet approval, the scheme will now be introduced as a sub-mission under the NHM (National Health Mission). The mission will be implemented in 779 cities and towns with more than 50,000 population and cover over 7.75 crore people. Under the scheme, government proposes to set up one Urban Primary Health Centre for every 50,000-60,000 population, one Urban Community Health Centre for five to six urban PHCs in big cities, an Auxiliary Nursing Midwives for 10,000 population and an ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) for 200 to 500 households.
