Title: Global COVID-19 recovery strategy must be green: IRENA

The competitive costs of power generation make investment in renewables highly attractive as countries target economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a latest report by the IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency) published on 02 June 2020. It added that renewable power is increasingly cheaper than any new electricity capacity based on fossil fuels and said that in 2021, up to 1,200 GW of existing coal capacity could cost more to operate than the cost of new utility-scale solar photovoltaic. The report titled ‘Renewable Power Generation Costs in 2019’ said that more than half of the renewable capacity added in 2019 achieved lower power costs than the cheapest new coal plants.
