The government has asked Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL, HPCL and GAIL to present a detailed plan by the end of the October 2021 on how they intend to produce, procure and consume green hydrogen, said people familiar with the matter. The government is putting together a large plan to adopt green hydrogen as part of the energy transition and expects oil and fertiliser companies to lead it. Refineries have been the biggest user of hydrogen, although all of it is currently produced using fossil fuel. State-run oil and gas companies are expected to offer details on their production plan, including proposed capacity, location of the facilities, source of renewable energy and anticipated consumption pattern, said the people. The companies also need to present their investment and funding plans.
