Title: Delhi's urban forestry project to get carbon credits

The Delhi government's urban forestry project in the wasteland of Deramandi has been chosen by the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention Climate Change) for clean development mechanism. This essentially means that the project will be entitled to carbon credits for the extent of reduction in carbon emissions, which could be traded in the international carbon market for money.The Delhi forest department officials, who recently learnt about their selection, said Delhi's is the only such project to be selected from India. The Deramandi project focuses on rejuvenating grasslands and planting native varieties. The land, spanning across 358 hectares in the southeastern part of the southern Aravali ridge, is very close to Delhi-Haryana border.
