Organization:Government of Jharkhand (Industry Department)
Date:2 August 2003

The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) development will primarily be led by the Private Sector Investor and Developers to undertake international class and scale infrastructure developments. These developers will act as SEZ Managers in designing, planning, financing, building, operating and marketing the zones to investors. The SEZ Company would endeavour to provide world-class utilities, social and municipal services. Jharkhand Government intends to exploit the SEZ concept for impacting the State's socioeconomic fabric through enhanced job opportunities and industrial development. This Policy will have overbearing power on existing state policies and for issues
and areas not covered by the SEZ Frameworks, the prevailing State Framework & legislation
will be deemed to be in force. The SEZ will provide for a Single Window Clearance for approvals and clearance for investors. This will have a simplified business working environment. The Development Commissioner is the authority for the Industrial Development Area for the notified SEZ areas, whose role is to regulate, facilitate and promote SEZ. Power in SEZ is exempted from electricity duty and tax. SEZ does not require Environment Impact Assessment approval.
