The Energy Conservation Act provides for the efficient use of energy and its conservation. The Act empowers the Central Government to specify energy consumption standards and prohibits the manufacture and sale of appliances that do not conform to energy consumption standards. The Act prescribes energy consumption norms and standards for these consumers, energy conservation building codes for efficient use of energy, and energy conservation in new commercial buildings with a contract load of 500 kW and above.
