In 2021, over a quarter of Kenyans experienced undernourishment, and food insecurity persists. Simultaneously, food loss and waste in sub-Saharan Africa surpasses 30% of production, more than twice the global average. This indicates that nations such as Kenya are losing and wasting more food annually than they obtain from international assistance. Women leaders around Kenya, with the assistance of IISD, are making strides to address the issue ranging from shaping a new post-harvest management strategy to leading food redistribution initiatives among retailers. Their endeavors underscore the efficacy of collaborations in generating feasible solutions. A coalition of innovators initiated a campaign to address food loss and waste in Kenya. Experts from IISD have collaborated closely with local women leaders to effectuate change.
