Title: In Swachh drive, Centre tells cities to take cattle to sheds, set up biogas units

The holy cow has been posing a big problem for the Prime Minister's showpiece Swachh Bharat mission with excreta of stray cattle messing up the cleanliness drive in most cities and towns. The Centre has now come up with an action plan to deal with it. It has suggested to municipal commissioners of all cities and towns to “make attempts” to transport all stray cattle to nearest gaushalas after mapping them, and help set up dung-based biogas plants in these cow shelters with funding from the Swachh Bharat mission. In a concept note shared with states, the Centre has suggested around 10 ‘gobar gas' plants in each city to solve the cleanliness problem and at the same time profit from the exercise.
