Just the effects on labour productivity due to heat can be the same size as the expenditure needed to shift to a climate-friendly economy. The industries that are mainly impacted are agriculture, construction, fisheries, forestry and sectors which are primarily outdoor and demand heavy effort. The lost productivity impacts are greatest in the tropics India could be the most affected country in the world, followed by China, Indonesia, etc. India, being at a low latitude and subject to heat and humidity extremes, already has the equivalent of about $600 billion lost in labour productivity.
