WII has played a significant role in the conservation of tigers and their habitat: Estimation of tiger population: WII developed a protocol and did population estimation surveys, which helped understand the status and distribution of tigers in the country. India’s tiger population faces numerous challenges despite the population multiplying. These include habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, human-tiger conflict, electrocution, and lack of funds and resources.
