Title: BMC to frame new water policy soon

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to come up with a comprehensive policy to deal with Mumbai’s water woes and bridge the gap between supply and demand. The city presently requires 4,200 million litres per day (MLD) but receives only 3430 MLD. There are concerns about leakages in the distribution network which is estimated to be as large as Pune’s daily requirement of nearly 700 MLD. The BMC has said it will frame a policy to address these issues apart from bringing in discipline in the way water is used.
