Title: The Haryana Canal and Drainage (Amendment) Act 2013
Organization:Government of Haryana
Date:October 2013

The Haryana Canal and Drainage Act, 1974 empowers to prohibit installation of any tubewell by prescribing a distance from the existing State Tubewell, unlined irrigation channel and minor. The unlined channels are protected by this Act. However, this provision is not applicable to the lined channel. As majority of channels have been lined now, the Act has been amended to control the damage of lined as well as unlined channels by not allowing the installation of tubewells within a specified distance from these channels or State Tubewells. The new Act also provides discharge of sewerage or trade effluent into canal as an offense to save the environment. The objective of this amendment is to protect water bodies and to provide clean and safe water at the tail end.
