Title: Private lab to test for dioxin presence in Okhla air
Source:The Times of India
Date:25 February 2014

National Green Tribunal has asked a private laboratory based in Hyderabad to monitor dioxin emissions at the Okhla waste-to-energy plant. The tribunal had recently told Delhi Pollution Control Committee and Central Pollution Control Board to assess pollution levels by holding a surprise inspection at the plant. The counsel representing Sukhdev Vihar residents had appealed for permanent closure of the plant as it was releasing dangerous pollutants. The report submitted by the green bodies indicates that levels of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and suspended particulate matter in the air are within limits. However, views on the emission of dioxin, which is highly carcinogenic, were contradictory.
