Title: Mission to raise forest cover by 50 million ha

The Union government has launched an ambitious project titled ‘Green Mission’ to increase forest cover by 50 million hectares in the next 10 years. Announcing this at the inaugural session of the two-day ‘International Bamboo Conclave and Expo-2014’ organised by the Bamboo Society of India along with the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (UAS-B), and the Forest Department, Union Minister for Environment and Forests Mr M. Veerappa Moily said the mission was being taken up at a cost of Rs. 36,000 crore. He said the State governments would play a key role in implementing the project.
