Micro-algae-based biofuel has the potential to quench a sizeable chunk of the world's energy demands, scientists say. According to Utah State University mechanical engineering graduate student Jeff Moody, micro-algae produces much higher yields of fuel-producing biomass than other traditional fuel feed-stocks and it doesn't compete with food crops. The aim was to produce a more exhaustive, accurate and realistic assessment of the current global yield of micro-algae biomass and lipids, Moody said.
