Title: In a first, Delhi Metro to use solar power roof tops

The Delhi Metro is set to become the first metro in the country to build and use roof top solar power plants at its stations. The DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) inaugurated its first roof top solar plant at the Dwarka Sector 21 station on June 15 2014. The plant will have a capacity to generate 500 kwp power and is expected to be operational by July 2014.The first solar module of the plant was inaugurated at the site by DMRC Director (Electrical) Anoop Kumar Gupta in the presence of officials from the DMRC and the German International Agency for International Cooperation, which is supporting the solar initiative. According to the DMRC, power produced from this plant will be used to cater to the requirements of the station. Last February, a Power Purchase Agreement for installation of the plant was signed between DMRC and the developer, a solar power producing multi-national firm.
