The Government of Uttar Pradesh has released the draft Uttar Pradesh Rooftop Solar PV Power Plant Policy in line with the National Solar Mission. The main objective of this policy is to promote the use of solar energy in the state in order to contribute to solar capacity addition and also address the problem of energy security. The Policy also aims to attract private sector participation in solar energy sector and build favorable environment for setting up grid connected rooftop solar photovoltaic power plants. It is proposed to achieve a target of 20 MW grid-connected roof-top solar PV power plants. The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency will act as the nodal agency to implement this policy. In order to promote the rooftop solar photovoltaic projects, wheeling charges and losses shall be nil during the first control period or when the total capacity 20 MW for rooftop solar power plant is being installed, whichever is earlier.
