To augment the capacity of water bodies in water-deficient Tamil Nadu, the government announced its ambitious programme to restore 10,000 water bodies in rural areas recently. The state restored 6,618 water bodies in rural areas in the last two years at an estimated cost of 638 crores. It has sanctioned rehabilitation work in 341 tanks, 67 anicuts, and 11 canals at the cost of 462 crores.
