The Aravallis, counted among the oldest mountains of the world, are deemed, in several respects, as the lifeline of the National Capital Region, and a natural buffer between the Thar Desert and the north-western fertile plains. Named aptly the Aravalli Green Wall, this afforested tract would offer multifarious and, more importantly, enduring ecological rewards besides helping to meet the country’s commitments made under various global conventions related to restoring degraded lands, protecting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change.
